Service Description: | Welcome to The Red House Nursey School. We are a rural school set in 5 acres of grounds We have the best of both worlds , an indoor introduction to the morning with familiar settling activities and the arrival of friends, followed by preparation for a morning of outdoor play and activities. The undisputed benefits of outdoor activity are embraced and enjoyed by the children and staff at TRH. Returning to the indoor setting at the end of the session before going home provides a natural conclusion to the morning and a calm preparation before departure. We have space to explore and be active in, allowing children to develop and set their own challenges. The physical activity that each child achieves helps to develop good health (NHS says children should have at least 3 hours of physical activity per day), gross motor skills, self- confidence, self- resilience and build social skills not easily replicated in an indoor environment. Children are taught to be an equal member in the setting this is a useful lesson to take with them throughout their schooling. Children need routine, it gives them a sense of security. Each day in school we have the same routines and rituals, register time, singing time, snack time, goodbye song. These small parts of the day offer reassuring predictability and familiarity. The forming of friendships are a crucial step to being part of the setting. The friendships are the children’s own when formed in a setting away from home, it is these bonds that help the emotional well-being of the child. Our days include : Spring snowdrop walks Field exploration Running along paths cut through summer grass Warm cocoa at the fire pit Feeding the guinea pigs Feeding the birds Examining frost and ice Planting and growing Playing in the mud kitchen Playing outdoors allows children to engage directly with and learn about their natural environment. A child needs to be able to master gross motor control and co-ordination skills before they can develop writing and pencil control. The ethos of TRH ensures that the child is valued, respected and listened to. They are taken seriously and their feelings are taken into account . Support is available for every child.
