Service Description:
We are an accessible and inclusive, communication friendly setting offering free-flow education and care to children aged 6 months to 5 years. Our mixed age approach means that children of differing ages can freely interact with each other and the same practitioners care for the same children over time. As well as having many educational benefits this helps to create a family feel.
Our main room has painting, sand and water play, construction toys as well as a book/quiet corner and role play/ home corner. Off the main room we have a smaller room that can be used for quiet/group activities and sleeping room. The main room also provides free flow access to the outside play area that has raised beds used for gardening, a muddy kitchen area, climbing frame with slides, music centre, gravel tray, sand pit, pirate ship and ride-on toys. We also have a kitchen where small groups are taken to cook and toilet area that has child height toilets, nappy changing area, potties and training seats. We try to arrange outings throughout the year, these have included, theatre trips, fire station, Cantref Adventure Farm, Madley environment centre, Oakchurch and local farms. We also have people come and visit us i.e. Forest school practitioner, dance teacher, Arts Alive, Zoolab, as well as parents bringing pets, horses, sheep, tractors, JCBs and camper vans to show us.
By offering a mixture of open ended and adult led activities we ensure that children’s individual needs are met through sensitive interactions that challenge and reinforce learning. Staff record children’s progress and development using Tapestry, a secure, online learning journal, that can only be accessed by parents/ carers. We hold regular discussions with parents about children’s development, share our 2 year old learning and development summary with the local health visiting team and will always try to work in partnership with any other professionals and agencies that are involved with your child, such as SaLT, the CDC or family support.
Staff are keen to continue their professional development and we ensure training for all aspects of the EYFS is made available. All of our staff have paediatric first aid, safeguarding and level 2 food safety training. Other training includes Early Years SENco Award, Signalong, Elklan Communication Friendly Setting for Early Years and Extending and Enhancing Good Autism Practice.
We run a breakfast club from 8am – 9am and an afterschool club 3.30 – 5.00pm giving the opportunity for siblings and older children to come across from Staunton on Wye Primary School.
We believe- Every child has unique requirements. Every child should be enabled to fulfil their individual potential. Every child has the right to be heard. In an inclusive community
We promise - A warm and friendly environment where families feel welcome. An environment where children feel safe and secure. Free flow play with constant access to outdoors. Children have fun whilst learning
We promote- Imagination. Resilience. Understanding and Tolerance. Sustainability
