Kington Primary Nursery believes that ‘Everybody is Somebody’ and recognises that all our children are unique and special. Through child-led learning and play we aim to help all our children achieve their full potential while having a fun and happy Nursery experience. A qualified teacher and highly qualified nursery staff support, challenge and reinforce learning through caring and sensitive interactions. Kington Primary School values Continuous Professional Development for all of our staff, and ensures opportunities for training are made available. In addition, staff have paediatric first aid qualifications and safeguarding training.

The Nursery is located in the school building where we have a purpose-built Nursery classroom. Our classroom is light and airy and very well-equipped, and we have our own self-contained toilets and kitchen area. The classroom has direct outside to a large, secure outdoor play environment where nursery children can play outdoors in all weathers. As a school nursery class, we are also fortunate to have access to all the school facilities such as the hall, library and the school grounds which include a pond and an eco-garden.

We work closely with the Reception class to ensure continuity and consistency of high-quality provision throughout your child’s time in the EYFS. The nursery children become familiar with other staff in the school, who visit Nursery to play with the children and read stories. We also join up with the Reception class for activities throughout the year. This means that children find the transition to Reception natural and worry-free.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Kington Primary is accredited as a ‘Communication Friendly Setting’ by Elkan and emphasis is placed on helping all children to develop high quality communication and language skills which in turn will help them to achieve their full potential across the curriculum.

We strive to be part of our community, helping our children learn about the area in which they live and visiting the local park, shops and library.

We offer weekly yoga sessions and also weekly PE sessions led by a sports coach.

We value our partnerships with parents/carers and will involve you in many aspects of nursery life though weekly and daily updates on the activities that your child is doing at Nursery. Nursery staff record children’s progress and development using Tapestry, a secure online learning journey, which can only be accessed by parents/carers. We also hold parents’ evenings and take part in the school sports day and other seasonal events.
The school has a comprehensive Special Needs Policy and Nursery staff are very experienced at working with children with additional needs. The school SENCo works closely with Nursery staff and parents to offer advice and support and to facilitate referrals to other professionals and arrange family-support meetings. Staff are trained in various types of SEND, such as Elklan speech and language support for under 5s and Autism Awareness. We use Signalong in the nursery.

We work with the local authority SEND manager to ensure we are supporting children appropriately and are following the correct processes for identifying and supporting SEND. We also liaise with the local health visitor and SaLT service when appropriate, as well as social care professionals if they are involved.
