Service Description:At Ashfield Park Primary School Nursery our children learn through playful, child led activities. Our highly experienced and qualified staff, including an Early Years teacher, support the children to develop their play, thinking, learning, communication and language through high quality interactions. We have a main playroom where the equipment and activities are stored accessibly so that children learn to be independent in their play. The play opportunities encourage children to develop their curiosity, creativity and problem solving. We also have a smaller room where we have snack and small group adult-led activities. Children help to prepare the table for snack and wash up when we have finished. The main playroom opens directly onto our large and very exciting garden where the children are able to challenge themselves as they climb over the stile, open the kissing gate, make mud kitchen delicacies and scramble up to the top of the slide so they can whizz down in to the sandpit! There is a quiet orchard area where children can relax and enjoy some quieter play and observe the changes through the seasons. Children are able to choose where they play and flow between the indoors and outdoors. The nursery is an integral part of the school so we have access to all the school amenities including the library, the halls and the amazing outdoor spaces. The nursery go "Out and About" each week onto the forest school field and enjoy a session of climbing trees, bug hunting and den building. The children each have their own nursery book which has photos of them at play and comments regarding their interests and learning. These are kept in the classroom and children love to spend time looking at them and talking about them. The books are sent home each term for parents to see and add to. At the end of your child''s time at nursery this is a lovely memento for you to keep. Each week the children have book time when they choose a book from our library to share with their families. We also offer a Home Learning library which provides games, activities and puzzles for children to borrow. We loves to involve our parents in their child''s learning and offer sessions throughout the year for them to join their child at play for craft sessions, world book day etc. The nursery is an accredited Elklan Communication Friendly setting. This means that all our staff have completed training to enable them to support all children to develop their communication skills; to identify those children who are at risk of delay and to make timely referrals and provide additional support. The school employs a Speech and Language Therapist and a Communication and Language TA who work more intensively with identified children. Staff attend regular training to ensure that they continue to reflect on and improve their practice so that they achieve their aim of providing the children who attend Ashfield Park Nursery with the best start.
